Antarctica… truly the last great wilderness on earth.
As I settle back into my life after having spent almost 3 weeks in the most unhospitable, remote and beautiful place on earth, my mind lingers towards re-discovered emotions and senses. Despite all odds, my comfort zone was actually being in Antarctica, feeling cold, touching the wild, smelling the ice, hearing the ocean… As I land back into what is my life, I have this burning sensation that we have moved away from ourselves, have lost touch with reality.
Glancing out of the window, my gaze would stop on a glacier, on humpback whales talking to us, on waves reminding us who owns this place. From the utter silence of the night to the roaring ocean during the Drake Passage, to the powerful whispers of Antarctica, all was there to wake us up. Yes, there is an urge to act on preserving not only Antarctica but also our world, for we owe it to our children and the generations to come to stand up and take action.
And above all, simply confirming the beauty of this world and the bliss we bathe in. Conned by the human comedy we are dragged into, we fear to stop and listen to the message of Hope, Beauty, Brightness and Happiness that the world holds for us.
Thanks to ‘2041’ and their amazingly inspiring team and undertaking, 72 people covering 22 nationalities have had the privilege to experiment, live, sense, smell, embrace Antarctica. It is indeed a privilege since it was all made possible thanks to the relentless dedication of Robert Swan, OBE, to the cause of Antarctica.
Thanks to my sponsors – Robinson International “Gold Sponsor”, Total “Silver Sponsor”, The Change Initiative “Silver Sponsor” and Emirates “Flying Sponsor” – I was given this privilege. Without their support, trust and commitment to ‘2041’ and our future, this wouldn’t have been made possible. THANK YOU.
As I settle back into my life, I cherish those magical moments that only my senses can share, and maybe some photos can portray.
I nourish all the lessons I have learned in 2 weeks about leadership, sustainability, teamwork, climate change… about LIFE.
Enjoy the show… I will be back soon to talk to you about it all and share my takings about why
“the greatest threat to our planet is to think that somebody else will save it” (Robert Swan, OBE)

Uhhhhhh... well written. Be prepared for the reverse culture shock once you are back to noisy cities! Suzanne Al Houby
